Plot: Tristran and Catherine Pendleton are aboard a ferry crossing from Gothenburg to Tilbury, reading a book of Scandinavian folk legends 'The Forgotten Ones'. Tristan plays some pan pipes he has bought in Stockholm ... and suddenly the two of them are gone. Sapphire and Steel arrive on the ship just too late. The children are now in another dimension - a land of fairies and dwarves called Gronandyl that existed in what is now the North Sea, in an age lost from mankind's history. Evil Time uses the dwarf leader Magisfard as his pawn and he entertains the unsuspecting children, who think this all a jolly adventure. A council of wizards plan to submerge Gronandyl beneath the sea and erase it from mankind's memory - Time and his sprite minion want Magisfard to prevent this from happening. Chief wizard Septurin sees the land's destruction as the only way to end the war between dwarves and elves - he wishes the primitive slave humans, the Menyuls, to take over the earth as the ancestors of man. Sapphire and Steel prevent Magisfard using the dislocated children of the future to disrupt the fabric of time and Gronandyl once more sinks beneath the waves.

Comments: An interesting if untypical Tolkein-esque tale that would never have occurred within the TV format. In an in-joke, 'The Forgotten Ones' book at the centre of the story is credited on its cover to Angus Allan - who I am certain was the writer of all of these strips. True to the format of the series, Sapphire and Steel can supernaturally appear to change clothes to fit into the period they are investigating - but sadly for them when they appear on the ferry they are wearing bad tracksuits. As if!
