EIGHTH BOOK
Published 1971.
BP Team: Val Singleton, John Noakes,
Peter Purves
Cover: John
and Pete ready to take charge of the 532 Blue Peter. John is sporting
a guard's hat and carrying signalling flags, whilst Mr Purves appears
to be the engineer, as he's in a boiler suit and is sporting an oil
can and a remarkably clean white rag. Rather strange logo as you can
see from the picture.
Features: John
goes on a survival course, spending a night in a snow hole in the
cairngorms... A page on the Blue Peter Royal Safari with Princess
Anne... The team get involved in a mexican equivalent of a rodeo...
The 532 Blue Peter, saved from the scrap-heap is relaunched as over
60,000 people turn out to see the team rename it... Pete meets dolphins
Belle, Prinny and Moby... Pete says "Why didn't I keep my big mouth
shut" as he finds his latest assignment is to find out what swimming
the English channel in November would be like (he lasts ten minutes)...
Val meets a lion whose best mate is a mouse...The team join the London
to Brighton Veteran Car Run in a 1903 Cadillac... Pete is rescued
by some mountain rescue radio dogs... John goes to Paris to experience
a car of the future... Pete meets some dinosaurs... The team turn
spoons and forks into holiday caravans (not literally) for the annual
appeal... Pete meets Tippoo's musical tiger, a 19th century Indian
musical organ in the form of a tiger mauling an Englishman... The
famous Kathakali dancers from Kerala visits the studio and John performs
some tap dancing with Roy Castle.
Makes: Witches
and Wizards from a dish mop and plastic lemon
Picnic Pasties for those who attend so many picnics they are bored
of sandwiches
A "super luxury softly padded bed" for your cat - not in any way a
washing up bowl with some material in side it, oh no.
And you can make your own kaleidoscope.
Historical Figure's Life Story in Pictures:
The Aztecs and Marie Antoinette both have their lives captured in
picture form. No, not together.
Stories: Bleep
and Booster and Paddington, as well as a cartoon picture story featuring
Bengo.
Rubbish Mystery Story: A
Case of Double Treachery featuring some dodgy Arab stereotypes.
Notes: Some
interesting features, if not absolutely chock-a-block with classic
BP memories. Some articles you'd have thought would get more space,
such as the safari, but presumably the spin-off cash-in mini book
would lose sales. Not one of the easiest annuals to find, but you
should be able to get hold of it without spending a fortune. Certainly
less than £5. |
