SEVENTH BOOK
Published 1970
BP Team: Val Singleton, John Noakes,
Peter Purves
Cover:
Having previously got the graphics right, the design takes a huge
step back for this trendy and crudely-70s effort. The crew try out
a gyrocopter, or rather Pete and Val stand back and laugh as they
prepare to send game daredevil Noakesy to his certain doom.
Features:
Noakes is made up to look like Henry VIII by the BBC Make Up department...
a lesson in calligraphy by the Queen's scribe... John and Pete go
mountain climbing; "It was my turn to feel terrified now. I don't
mind heights as long as I'm in control, but there I was, strapped
to a stretcher, dangling on the end of a pair of ropes, completely
helpless."... John joins the BBC News team to cover a bank raid story,
roping in newsreader Richard Baker along the way... also he covers
Crufts as a photographer and reporter
Makes:
A box farm. As you may guess, a farmhouse cottage made out of shoe
boxes and liberally decorated with Britain's farm figurines.
A Christmas door decoration made from a polystyrene ceiling tile,
tinsel, holly and 'a cake doyley'. Funny, I always thought it was
spelt 'doily'?
Explorer's Kit. Arctic accessories to make for "your soldier doll".
That'll be Action Man then? Action Man from Palitoy?
Historical Figure's Life
Story in Pictures: Henri Dunant, founder of The Red Cross.
Also biogs of Charles Dickens ('A Very Queer Small Boy') and the
world's fattest ever man.
Stories: with Bleep and Booster and
Paddington.
Rubbish Mystery Story: The Case of
the Green Panda
Notes: A curiously Purves-free zone
for the most part, despite its age the 7th is a surprisingly easy
to find Book, although some dealers might charge about £6 for it.
More likely you'll get it for a couple of quid although the '50p
rule' applies as always.
